Q&A With ‘Grief’ Cast Follows Legacy Project Screening

Actors Craig Chester, Illeana Douglas and Carlton Wilborn will be joined by Inclusive PR’s Mickey Cottrell and producer Richard Glatzer for a Q&A following a screening of the 1993 comedy “Grief.” The screening, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Billy Wilder Theater, is part of the Outfest/UCLA Legacy Project to preserve LGBT images on film.

In “Grief,” we spend a week with a group of industry types in the offices of a daytime TV show called “The Love Judge.” Mark (Craig Chester) mourns the recent passing of his lover from AIDS, but his grief is overshadowed by the drama going on behind the scenes in the production office. Skating between sincere emotion and comedy, the film showcases memorable performances, including turns by such denizens of early-‘90s Los Angeles queer culture as Jackie Beat and Alexis Arquette. The Outfest UCLA Legacy Project, a partnership between Outfest and the UCLA Film & Television Archive, has more than 30,000 selections in the archive. The Legacy Project is expanding by developing curriculum to be used in classrooms that make LGBT history visible for our youth.

Preceding “The Love Judge” will be “Glamazon: The Barbara Lemay Story” (1991). This short, also directed by Richard Glatzer, introduces famed carnival dancer Barbara LeMay, who for years harbored a surprising secret behind her seven veils. (Digital video, color, 15 min.)
