A drag troupe in Rock Springs, Wyoming stages Rocky Horror on main street like the town depends on it — because it kind of does. If you want to know what creative bravery in the face of authoritarianism actually looks like, it isn’t a Cabaret revival in a safe blue city. It’s the queer and trans community of the reddest county in a red state, mounting their town’s first-ever shadow cast. Just in time for Rocky Horror’s 50th.

Outfest History

In 1982, Outfest began as an act of defiance on the UCLA campus, with a single weekend of screenings held despite administrative opposition. Today, as the LGBT community faces renewed challenges, Outfest revisits its founding spirit: creating vital spaces where supporters of the LGBT community gather, celebrate and stand strong together.

OutfestNEXT provides a collective vision of queer storytelling:  in community, in collaboration, and in full view.
