L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center to Host Free Health Conference for Lesbians & Bisexual Women on Sept. 22

A free full-day conference with dynamic speakers and engaging workshops is planned for the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Mind, Body & Soul health conference on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Center’s Village at Ed Gould Plaza. The only event of its kind in Southern California for lesbians and bisexual women, the free Mind, Body & Soul conference equips women with the knowledge they need to care for their well-being and ensure they get top-quality health care.

Workshops will address topics such as sexual health, coming out to doctors, aging in the lesbian community, Girl Sex 101 and much more. A resource fair will provide information on organizations and agencies that offer valuable services.

“Lesbians and bisexual women are less likely than straight women to seek routine medical care and screenings, despite an elevated risk for breast cancer, depression, and other medical issues,” says Susan Cohen, director of the Center’s Health Education & Prevention department. “With Mind, Body & Soul, the Center educates women so that they can better take care of themselves.”

Featured speakers include: Sue Dunlap, president of Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles (“The State of Women’s Health Care Today”); clinician and trainer Dr. Neva Chauppette (“Drug Use and Addiction Among Lesbians and Bisexual Women”); and Sarah Tomchesson of the Pleasure Chest (“Queering Your Sex”).

Mind, Body & Soul includes a free lunch.
