Outfest 2023 opens its doors July 13 with the highly anticipated Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe at the historic Orpheum Theatre downtown Los Angeles. Closing out the festival on July 23 is Chasing Chasing Amy at the Montalban in Hollywood. The 10-day film festival will screen at numerous theaters throughout Los Angeles, including the DGA, Downtown’s Redcat, Harmony Gold on Sunset, and others.

On opening night Thursday, July 13, 2023, the Outfest Achievement Award will be awarded to filmmaker Andrew Ahn (“Fire Island,” “Driveways”), a longtime presence at Outfest. A champion of promoting diversity in the arts, he has mentored youth filmmakers through programs like the OutSet program, among many others.

Ahn will join Outfest for the Opening Night Gala to accept the festival’s highest honor in person, along with this year’s Platinum Maverick Award winner, actor-producer-musician Amandla Stenberg. The Platinum Alchemy Award will be given to Madame Gandhi who will headline the Platinum Alchemy Party at 10DTLA on July 15, along with performances by Mega Bog, Praise Kink, and Maude Vós & Marie Nyx and a special secret guest performance.

Other Outfest highlights over the 10-day festival include the centerpiece lineup: the Special Centerpiece film Passages directed byIra Sachs, starring Franz Rogowski, Ben Whishaw, and Adèle Exarchopoulos, Documentary Centerpiece Kokomo City directed by D. Smith with film participants Daniella Carter, Liyah Mitchell, and Dominique Silver in attendance, U.S. Centerpiece Fancy Dance directed by Erica Tremblay, starring Lily Gladstone, Platinum Centerpiece My Animal directed by Jacqueline Castel with Castel and stars Bobbi Salvör Menuez and Amandla Stenberg in attendance, and Late Night Spotlight film Down Low directed by Rightor Doyle, starring Zachary Quinto, Lukas Gage, Simon Rex, Judith Light, and Audra McDonald.
