The Best In Drag Show began over two decades ago as a little soiree in a West Hollywood living room. Back then it was called Battle for the Tiara, and raised $300 for people impacted by AIDS.

Twenty-three years later, the tiaras are still tantalizing, and the show has raised more than $2.2 million for Aid for AIDS (AFA), an organization that provides food and housing for men, women and children with HIV/AIDS.

On Oct. 7, Best In Drag Show will sashay into the Orpheum Theatre in downtown LA, to raise more funds for the organization. Kathy Griffin will headline the show, and Celebrity judges include Actresss Melanie Griffith, Olympic Diver Greg Louganis, Sara Ramirez, Lisa Rinna (Days of Our Lives), Harry Hamlin (Army Wives), Melora Hardin (The Office), Kathy Kinney (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and Judge Alex Ferrer (Judge Alex).

“Their star power helps us raise funds for our programs that serve our Los Angeles neighbors who are suffering with HIV/AIDS,” says Terry Goddard II, executive director of Alliance for Housing and Healing, Aid for AIDS’ umbrella organization.

Contestants for the 2012 contest are Carlos “Fruta Fresca” Martinez, Miss California; Lawrence “Tiny Bubbles” Lucero, Miss Hawaii; Matthew James “Miss Clawdette” Carlin, Miss Louisiana; Keith “Anna Robix” Lamont, Miss Massachusetts; Christian “Tipsy Rose Lee” Satrustegui, Miss Washington; and Victor “LaFonda Jackson” Montoya, Miss Indiana.
