Just Because He Breathes: Learning to Truly Love Our Gay Son

Linda Robertson writes a touching and haunting story of her gay son, his coming out, her regretted religious behavior, and his eventual suicide. She writes:
“On the night of Nov. 20, 2001, a conversation held over Instant Messenger changed our lives forever. Our 12-year-old son messaged me in my office from the computer in his bedroom.”
The story turns for the worse over the next six years. She laments:
“We told our son that he had to choose between Jesus and his sexuality. Choosing God, practically, meant living a lifetime condemned to being alone. So, just before his 18th birthday, Ryan, depressed, suicidal and disillusioned, made a new choice.”
