Death Cab for Cutie Announce Fall Tour

By  |

Seattle, WA quartet Death Cab for Cutie are set to release their new studio album, “Plans,” on August 30th. This is the group’s first release for Atlantic Records and the follow up to their acclaimed ’03 album, “Transatlanticism” (which has sold over 330,000 copies on indie label Barsuk). “Plans” was produced by Death Cab for Cutie guitarist, Chris Walla, who also produced the group’s previous four releases. With major press, an astounding 200,000 plus streams of the lead single “Soul Meets Body” in its first week on MySpace.com, and commercial radio throughout the country, there is no doubt that anticipation is high for “Plans.”

Never ones to stay off the road for long, Death Cab for Cutie begin a seven-week North American headlining tour October 3rd in Vancouver, BC. The band is keeping themselves occupied this summer with select shows including Japan’s famed Summer Sonic festival August 13th and 14th, a sold-out show at New York City’s Central Park Summerstage August 18th and the Austin City Limits Festival September 24th. They will play at The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles on November 11. Death Cab recently performed as part of the Lollapalooza festival and San Diego Street Scene where they previewed a few songs from the new album. The New York Times wrote about their Lollapalooza performance, “As Mr. Gibbard sang about crumbling relationships, melodies gave way to guitar crescendos, quiet vows turned into obsessively repeated lines, and the music rose and fell with every emotional current, finding beauty in the way form followed dysfunction.” Death Cab for Cutie will make their national television debut for “Plans” with a performance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” Tuesday, September 27th.

It has been a busy two years for Death Cab for Cutie. The band performed as part of last year’s Vote for Change tour with Pearl Jam, toured Japan, Europe, Australia and the US three times, and made high-profile television appearances including a Spring ’05 performance on “THE OC.” Additionally, the band’s Spring 2004 tour was documented on the recently released Plexifilm DVD, “Drive Well, Sleep Carefully,” which was directed by noted filmmaker Justin Mitchell. “Drive Well, Sleep Carefully” features 13 live songs along with candid backstage and interview footage.
