NCLR Honors Lily Tomlin, Club Skirts Promoter in Palm Springs
Lily Tomlin tickled the crowd at an NCLR fundraiser last week, graciously appearing as an honoree along with Mariah Hanson, promoter of the annual Club Skirts’ Dinah event in Palm Springs.
Others attending included actress Meredith Baxter and her partner Nancy Locke, comics Suzanne Westenhoefer and Fortune Feimster, along with many others at the Palm Springs home of Geoff Kors and James Williamson.
“Lily Tomlin has been a huge influence on my comedy, so getting to meet her at the NCLR event was a dream come true,” said Feimster, writer/performer of “Chelsea Lately” fame.

Kors, a senior policy strategist, and NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell praised Tomlin, a veteran entertainer, and Hanson, promoter of the Club Skirts Dinah event, for their impact on LGBT acceptance.
Also noted was the progress already made on NCLR’s #BornPerfect campaign, intended to end the use of conversion therapy on LGBTQ youth in five years.
“We could not have imagined then the speed with which this movement has already grown or the impact it has already made,” said Samantha Ames, NCLR staff attorney and #BornPerfect Coordinator.
For proof, look no further than Washington D.C., where President Barack Obama sent a clear message this month to every LGBTQ person in the country, that forced conversion therapy is a dead end.
“We cannot risk another child ending their life while they wait for the family acceptance and support they so desperately need,” said Ames. “Now that the country is finally ready to open its eyes, we must work harder than ever to show how wrong and damaging these practices are.”
