Celebs to Support Oct. 12 Fundraiser for New Lesbian Center
Kelsey Chavarria and Rose Garcia from “The Real L Word,” director-actress Amanda Bearse (“The Big Gay Sketch Show,” “Married … With Children”), celebrity chef Khristianne Uy, Miss USA contestant Mollie Thomas (winner of “The Taste”), celebrity surfer Cori Schumacher; and comedian Cathy Lewis are among the guests slated to attend Wonder Women Premiere Party on Saturday, Oct. 12. The event, to be held at a private Hancock Park estate, is a fundraiser for the newly established Lesbian Center.
Music, drinks and dancing will go from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., with red carpet arrivals slated for 8 p.m.
“Lesbians in Southern California have been experiencing a void around having a unique space to create community outside of the bar scene,” says organizer Lauren Costine, PhD. “One of our main goals is to be the place lesbians of all ethnicities and ages can connect to one another.”
Other committee members include longtime West Hollywood advocates for the LGBT community, Ivy Bottini, a co-founder and charter member of the founding chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW); Jeanne Córdova, founder of The Lesbian Tide, a national newsmagazine started in 1971, and Elizabeth Sandberg, who serves on the Gay and Lesbian Advisory Board to city council in West Hollywood and is a member-at-large on the board of the West Hollywood Friends of the Library.
