Antigone Rising Premieres Music Video ‘Get to You’
A spiritual sisterhood is at the heart of the new music video out today from the all-girl band Antigone Rising.
The boot-stompin’-alt-country-rock band filmed the music video “Get to You” with directors Jie Yi and Valerie Lasser during their New England tour in March. The catchy track is taken from the band’s newly released EP “Whiskey & Wine – Volume 1,” which debuted on iTunes and the band’s website earlier this spring.
The band garnered much media attention last year when Kristin Ellis-Henderson appeared on the cover of Time magazine with wife Sarah Kate Ellis-Henderson, the president/CEO of GLAAD, for a feature on marriage equality, a move which testifies to the out band’s queer friendly and socially progressive vibe.
“It was an honor to be chosen as the couple on the cover of Time Magazine. To be part of the cultural shift is not something my wife and I take lightly,” said Kristin.
The concept of the new “Get to You” video is meant to invoke the connection shared between the band members while on the road. The video offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the tight-knit camaraderie between sisters and band founders Kristin Ellis-Henderson and Cathy Henderson, and band mates Nini Camps and Dena Tauriello.
Antigone Rising was the first band on Starbuck’s Hear Music (Lava Records) that exploded into the spotlight selling over 150,000 copies of their debut LP and landing in the top 20 of the “Billboard Heatseekers” chart for an entire year.
Since then, Antigone Rising has gone from touring with such prestigious acts as The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Allman Brothers Band, The Bangles and Rob Thomas; traveling to the Middle East, spending time in Israel and the West Bank as cultural ambassadors for the United States Embassy.
The band pledged to donate 5% of their earnings to GLAAD from the two-volume Whiskey and Wine, which were funded with the help of a Pledge Music campaign.
The success of Antigone Rising’s has been driven by the enthusiastic support of fans, with two fan-funded albums, including the critically acclaimed “23 Red.” In addition to extensive touring, Antigone Rising is also running a packed promotional campaign for two brand new EPs for 2014: the already released ‘Whiskey & Wine – Volume 1” and “Whiskey & Wine – Volume 2,” due out Oct. 28.
