Filmmakers Make Connections at Outfest Women’s Soiree

By  |

Filmmakers gathered on a sunny Sunday afternoon to mix and mingle at the annual Outfest Women’s Soiree on Nov. 11.

Guests ranged from Guinevere Turner (The L Word, American Psycho) and Anna Margarita Albelo (Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf?) to Marina Rice Bader, who’s latest film with partner Nicole Conn, “A Perfect Ending,” has been a must-see on the festival circuit this year, as well as promoter Mariah Hanson and comedian Fortune Feimster.

Writer-actress Turner, mingling poolside with fellow filmmakers, has had a long association with Outfest and described her latest assist from Los Angeles’ esteemed gay and lesbian film festival:

“I just wrote a film about gay suicide in the Mormon community,” she explained. “James Mason, who’s on the board, is friends with Mathew Modine and said he would love the script.”

So now, as she begins a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to finance the film, she already has Modine attached in an important role.

“Once again, there’s Outfest making stuff happen,” she said.
